The bad angel believed in that which he knew existed. God, climate change: these were of philosophical value, which is to mean, nothing. He aspired to have that which he knew existed: money, land, assets, whatever, in fact, his fellow man had. By virtue of the desires of other men, rather than desires from some nugget deep in his core, he pursued many goals and by accomplishing them, justified his own ego. And this feeling, of righteousness for who he was, what he could accomplish, nourished his existence.
The good angel had never met God (or rather, didn’t remember meeting him). The good angel chased God on faith. He didn’t know of god’s existence. But he knew of a wide open sky with interminable depth. And he knew men plunged into it and died. But that pursuit of this unknown drove him too. His desire was faith that something existed out there. His faith was not in a vision of God. In fact, it was solely on that which he could not see. He was not moved by beautiful sunsets, or miracles of modern science, or even of the seeming triumph of good over evil. These were the tides on the lands and seas of man. These were not the ephemeral. The ephemeral was the void. And the touching of that void drove him, sustained his living.
